The riot-hit Mau town was fast returning to normalcy with indefinite curfew, clamped on October 14, relaxed today for three hours in a phased manner. The curfew was slated to be relaxed for longer duration so that the minority community could attend the Alvida namaz on Friday, while it was expected to be lifted totally during the day before Diwali. Police sources here said the situation was normal and the peace committees were working round the clock to instil confidence among the people. Sources said in view of the coming festival week ahead, the administration was contemplating relaxing the curfew for longer period so that there were no hindrances to any community to celebrate their festivals. The sources, however, maintained the night curfew would continue for another fortnight before being lifted. ''There is no scarcity of essential commodities in the curfew hit areas while train and road services have already started,'' sources added. Meanwhile, police superintendent Sujit Pandey said elaborate security arrangments had been made in view of the coming festivals. ''There is already one company of BSF and two companies of RAF in the district to keep strict vigil on the law and order situation.'' Mr Pandey claimed that the situation esd well under control even as the authorities were strictly dealing with rumour mongers. At least seven people were killed and 25 injured in the communal riots, which hit the town after a dispute during a Bharat Milap programme on the night of October 13. UNI MB VS MSJ DS1306
